Discover the Moroccan Atlas Mountains...

Toubkal
Most High Atlas trekkers make Jbel Toubkal (4167m/13,670ft), the highest peak in North Africa, their first goal. Toubkal is easy to reach from Marrakech and can be tackled in just a couple of days. This is an exceptionally striking region with a sharp, imposing splendor which never fails to impress its visitors. At the summit of Jbel Toubkal one gets a clear sense of the way the Atlas Mountains form Morocco’s spine. It divides a gleaming Atlantic coast from the scorching vastness of Saharan Africa. The region itself is bound by Tizi-n’-Tichka in the west and Tizi-n’-Test to the east. Imlil is the main trailhead in the area.

It may not be the most exciting peak in the world, but standing on the peak in the middle of winter with beautiful snowy peaks around you - it's hard to believe you're in Africa. Most people head up the south col, as it is the most straightforward way up the mountain. However, there are a lot of other ways up the peak, so if you are into more than just peak bagging - it's really worth exploring the different options.

M'goun
The M'Goun massive is the second highest peak in the High Atlas and is situated in the beautiful Central High Atlas. It separates 2 very different worlds. To the north are the high plateaus with its peaks and to the south the Sahara desert.
This massive is quite different from Toubkal. On either side of the traverse are remote Berber villages and old kasbahs, where daily life continues as it has for thousands of years. Red soil, dramatic landscapes, charming valley trails and wild high elevation ridges with fantastic views. Be prepared to face a lot of elevation changes while trekking in this area, but also to be surprised with the most beautiful panoramas.

Saghro
Between the High Atlas and the Sahara, about 6 hours from Marrakech, lies the Jbel Saghro, a mountain region of great geological interest. It consists of high volcanic peaks and twisted tortured sections of rock, split by deep gorges and very remote villages. In the areas with small oases you will find a variety of palm trees, almond trees, fig trees, and rose laurel. For eight months of the year, the Saghro is home to the semi-nomadic Ait Atta tribe and their extended family of sheep, goats, camels and mules. In May, when summer begins to scorch the Saghro the Ait Atta begin their migration to the cool air and high pastures of the High Atlas to the north. The scenery in this area is ideal for lovers of big views and wild desertic expanses and the easy grade of trekking make this trip suitable to a wide range of abilities.

Siroua
This volcanic mountain range is the oldest one in Morocco and connects the High-Atlas to the Anti-Atlas. It is located approximately 200km south of Marrakech. The Siroua has a unique range where the erosion has sculptured the landscapes and given them majestic austerity. Many villages are spread out on the foot of the mountain range. They are surrounded by barley, corn, saffron and almond trees, which grow in the fields irrigated by torrents at the foot of these villages.

Trekking in the Jebel Siroua vicinity is a mixture of deep desert trekking, a climb up the 3305m high mountain and a cultural experience in the country of the Morocco Berber people. The landscape on the southern side of the Atlas mountain range towards the Sahara desert is harsh, vast and peaceful with as much solitude as you'd like to seek. Spring is the best time to discover this area.

Anti-Atlas
The Anti-Atlas extends from the Atlantic Ocean in the southwest of Morocco toward the northeast to the heights of Ouarzazate and further east to the city of Tafilalt (altogether a distance of approximately 500 km). In the south it borders the Sahara. The easternmost point of the anti-Atlas is the Djebel Sarhro mountains and its eastern boundary is set by sections of the High Atlas range. In the south it borders the Sahara. The easternmost point of the anti-Atlas is the Djebel Sarhro Mountains and its eastern boundary is set by sections of the High Atlas range. On the heights of Ouarzazate the massif is cut in two by the Dráa valley which opens southward. In this chaos of rocks the contrasts are astonishing: water runs in some remote places, forming clear basins. The rare villages are reduced to a handful of small houses surrounded by palm trees.
